About
Rafa Gonzalez is a licensed Mental Health Counselor. He helps both English and Spanish speaking individuals, couples, and families understand their experiences and struggles. He helps clients produce a more productive life, reduce anxiety and depression, while helping one recognize and take control of one's undesired behaviors and patterns. Rafa utilizes a number of counseling techniques including Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) that explores the connection between one’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Rafa was born in Cuba. As a Latino, Rafa understand the acculturation process that Latino immigrants experience. He is interested in counseling Latinos who would benefit from Spanish speaking services. During his graduate internship, Rafa spent a significant amount of time providing services to Latino/as in individual and couples sessions.
Rafa received his master’s degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and his bachelor’s from UCF. Also, He is a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, which is an effective tool for couples who are considering marriage or would like to work on their relationship. (www.prepare-enrich.com). He completed a Sex Addiction Counseling course and a Sexual Orientation and Sexual Identity course at the Institute for Sexual Wholeness, Richmont Graduate University and is working toward his Sex Addiction Counselor certification.
Prior to graduating, Rafa spent a few years serving as a volunteer group leader for reGROUP at Summit Church, Orlando. There he lead recovery groups and helped individuals work through their hurts, habits, and hangups.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, extended family, and friends, going to the movies, painting, walking, listening to audio books and music, cooking, traveling, and of course going to Disney.
